#Squarch 28: Stefan and Liz’s Waltz

It’s the last Sunday in #Squarch, which means the last waltz unless I decide to do one final waltz on the 31st. If I do decide to end on a waltz, I should have picked this one to go out on; it’s one of the prettiest waltzes I know, especially when played by its composer Robin Bullock.

One of these days I think I’d like to sit down with this one for a while and work out actual harmony and counterpoint parts, because while I think the improvised bits on this recording worked well enough, this tune deserves parts with actual thought and intention.

Thanks to Cam for suggesting this one, and for figuring out what some of the trickier chords are! And thanks to Strum Machine for implementing suspended and slash chords recently; this one really benefits from those.

Here’s my first take on Robin Bullock’s Stefan and Liz’s Waltz:

  1. This has that expressive quality of many Civil War tunes, beautiful and at the same time haunting. Thanks, Josh.
