#Squarch 2022, Day 3: The Old Muse and Her Pups

I also made square focaccia.

I don’t know much about this tune, and I have questions. Is “Old Muse” someone’s dog?

I picked this tune up from the Canote Brothers’ cd “Dogs in the Dishes”, I’m pretty sure. They did teach it in their stringband class, but I wasn’t taking the class then. They credit it to Jimmy Triplett, and Tater Joe’s credits it to Royce Talkington.

It’s one of those tunes that sounds a bit like “Dubuque”, or “Duck River”, or “Hell on the Nine Mile”. I think of this family as Dubuque-like, but I’m not sure why; it’s not like I actually play Dubuque a lot.

Anyway, here’s my recording for day 3 of #Squarch:

  1. Wow, the mastering plugin I used really did a number on this one with the compression. That’ll teach me to not read the manual.

Also, huh, I just listened to a recording of this tune, and I’ve changed one of the phrases. The folk process in action, I guess.
